"ENA! We've got work to do, so quit daydreaming and pay attention!"
— Froggy, Dream BBQ

Froggy is a deuteragonist in the ENA series. He is a main character set to appear in Dream BBQ.

Appearance

Froggy is a masculine humanoid character. He wears a black frog suit with two large, bulging eyes and a white outline surrounding it. Froggy's body, including his face, is relatively human-like and resembles ukiyo-e, an art style used for traditional woodblock prints and paintings. His skin is completely white, and his face has high-contrast shading.

Froggy's outfit consists of a dark red necktie, a purple skirt, a gray loincloth, black shin wraps outlined in white, and green-beige getas.

Personality

Froggy acts as a comic relief character and a foil to Ena, similar to Moony's dynamic with Ena in Season 1. He is a highly blusterous and confident character with a loud, colorful, and larger-than-life personality. While having these qualities and also thinking highly of himself, he is not all that smart.[3][4]

Trivia

  • Froggy was first revealed in the Dream BBQ game trailer.
  • Froggy slightly resembles Brick Frog. Both characters are based on frogs and have similar white outlines on their bodies. Despite this, they are stated to be unrelated.
  • Froggy appears to be a Season 2 parallel to Moony. Both have a similar name structure of a word having a "y" at the end, (In Froggy's case, it being "g and y") and are arrogant deuteragonists who accompany Ena in their respective seasons.
  • Froggy's name was first revealed through the name of a piece of merchandise on Joelgc.com.

Cultural references and inspirations

  • Froggy was stated on an ENA Day 2022 Twitch stream to be based on the character Gonta from the Japanese educational children's show Dekirukana. The character themself is a large anthropomorphic gopher played by an actor in costume. It was stated by Joel Guerra that he watched the show as a child, as it also aired in Latin American countries.
    • Ena is also based on the show's other main character, Noppo. This is likely why Ena and Froggy are paired together.
  • Coincidence or not, Froggy's attire and color scheme resemble that of Tsubakura Enraku from the Len'en Project game series.
  • Froggy's personality appears to be inspired by comic relief characters in old Japanese detective/private eye dramas.[3][4]
