― Shoryo, Dream BBQ

Shoryo is a character in Dream BBQ. He appears in Uncanny Streets. He asks Ena to find four Pets, and gives 10 Chocolates in return.

Appearance

Shoryo's body consists of a black figure with a rounded top and bottom. The lower half of his body has four thin limbs. His neck is also thin, and his head is tan and cylindrical, resembling a horse. Another thin cylinder supports the back of his head, while his muzzle is light gray with stylized nostrils, visible teeth, and purple lips, with a blue sash tied around it. He has half-circle ears and circular eyebrows, under which are his eyes, which are usually closed. Floating at his sides are two computer mice with holes in them, which seem capable of producing Chocolates.

Shoryo's outfit consists of a brown coat or kimono with four green spots or buttons and a red sash that ties around his thin midsection. He also wears a dark gray hat that partially droops.

Personality

Shoryo is somewhat dismissive, usually only caring about his own problems. When Ena states that his introduction as the "Boss" isn't accurate, he states he doesn't care and tells her to go away. Additionally, when Ena asks him where she can find the Bathroom, he angrily replies he has "no time for shit-chat". He only seems to be interested in having his Pets retrieved, which he tasks Ena with, only to claim Ena is too early when she brings all four of them back.

Trivia

  • Shoryo is one of the few characters whose name was revealed through public preview text of Joel Guerra's Patreon, being shown on "ENA: Dream BBQ Preview 20".
  • Shoryo was designed by Buchao.[3]
  • During the ENA Day 2023 stream, a GIF of Shoryo was revealed, which lacked the hooves he sports in the final game. It was stated that he may give Ena something, which ended up being Chocolates.[1]

Cultural references and inspirations

  • Shoryo appears to be based on shōryō uma, a cucumber horse crafted as part of a ritual during the Japanese festival of Obon. Shōryō uma have chopsticks or toothpicks for legs and are offered as vessels for ancestral spirits to travel back home as quickly as possible.
