Mannequins

“"I will watch over your quest from here! Climbing makes me itchy... Plus, you know... it's fun to watch all the bodies falling."”
― Brick Frog, Temptation Stairway
The Mannequins are a recurring type of entity who appear in Temptation Stairway and Dream BBQ.
Appearance
The Mannequins are gray humanoid beings, specifically resembling artists' mannequins.
Overview
The Mannequins appear often throughout Temptation Stairway. They predominantly appear at the beginning of the episode in large crowds. The Mannequins can be found climbing the legs of The Great Runas's transportation device, dancing together, and even climbing on top of each other in an attempt to reach The Great Runas. They seem to be capable of speech, though whatever they say sounds corrupted and garbled, as heard at the beginning of Temptation Stairway and during the Runas chase scene.
The Mannequins also appear in other areas within The Great Runas's residence. They appear in the Mannequin Expanse, bowing down. Some corpses of Mannequins can also be found in the field and code sections of the Hourglass Meadow as well as in the Stairway Void before Ena enters the area containing Ulysses.
Mannequins reappear in the second trailer for Dream BBQ, in which they are seen floating towards a large, unnamed character who attempts to grab or swat at them. They are also seen briefly falling into a pool of red liquid.
In Dream BBQ, Mannequins can be found in every main location except for The Core, the Bathroom and the Smoke Room. In most locations, they are lifeless and only a few or even just one. In Uncanny Streets and Outworld they can be seen wandering around the map, dancing, or just standing around. During the ending cutscene of the Lonely Door chapter, Ena turns into a mannequin and then reappears in the Hub, before returning to her original state.
A May 5th patch to Dream BBQ added a new interaction to a winch-like item found in Hoarder Alex's pile of items. Interacting with it 4 times will cause an explosion that causes the player to spawn back at the Uncanny Streets roundabout. Going back to the winch reveals a dismembered mannequin a small distance away from it, where the player presumably died, surrounded by several multi-colored cubes. This mannequin will then reappear in the same spot on any new save files created after this point as well.

Trivia
- Due to the large number of Mannequins, the backs of the Mannequin crowds are simplified to block models to reserve space and keep the camera movement smooth.
- In Dream BBQ, lifeless Mannequins can sometimes be found in locations that Ena is likely to respawn, such as by gaps or rivers a player might want to cross. This might be to offer a hint to the player to attempt these jumps. Many lifeless mannequins can also be found lying in the center of the roundabout, the default respawn location for when Ena has been out of bounds for too long.

- In the Outworld in Dream BBQ, Mannequins, similarly to Ena, will also have accumulated rocks around their bodies. Mannequins closer to the ship will have accumulated more rocks than ones further away. No other entities in Outworld seem to accumulate rocks.
Cultural references and inspirations
- The dance patterns and white appearance of the Mannequins bear a slight resemblance to the dancing figures seen in the game Alone in the Dark.
