Shaman
“"What had to be done was done, but... what hadn't been done was done too. And now that it is done, it may be done again... ...done done done.”
― The Shaman, Dream BBQ
The Shaman is a character in Dream BBQ. They give the player the quest "Get a Life", tasking Ena with getting a Motherboard, and gives a Humanboard in return.
Appearance
The Shaman is a masculine humanoid character with light skin, a pink nose, and gray hair that droops into a beard. They wear a blue robe and hat decorated with a yellow star and moon pattern. As shown in a piece of Fangamer merchandise, the robe covers their legs, and they also wear blue shoes.
Personality
The best way to describe the Shaman's personality would be that he's a walking contradiction. He contradicts himself constantly, to the point where even Ena had enough of his antics. He also appears to worship the G0DS, pleading for forgiveness before creating and killing multiple of his clones in order to create the Humanboard, blowing up the Seal House in the process.
According to several NPCs, the Shaman is considered unstable and crazy, with some believing that he is a liar and doesn't know how to get to the Bathroom. Despite this, he offers Ena proper directions and the Humanboard, which leads up to the Orb island and thus The Core, where the Bathroom is located.
History
The Shaman was first seen during the gameplay portion of the second Dream BBQ trailer, with only the top half of their body visible, showing them to have a wizard-like appearance. The character's name had not yet been revealed at that time. A GIF featuring the same character was also posted on February 17th, 2023, simply showing a loop of their scene shown in the trailer.[1] The announcement of Fangamer merchandise came with a preview of sticker sheets that also showed part of the character's hat and head. The merchandise was released on the Fangamer website on May 2nd, 2023, revealing their full body.
The Shaman also appeared in an image of a prototype of a quest board, in which they are represented by an icon (possibly a placeholder) resembling a wizard from Old School RuneScape. The icon also resembled the wizard-like character from the trailer, but it was originally unclear whether they were the same character. According to the quest description, which reveals their name, they tell Ena that she has to go to get a mother. The player must purchase or find someone who can adopt Ena, although some parents prefer to adopt rats rather than other entities.
The Shaman was eventually confirmed to be the wizard-like character from the trailer through an ENA Discord server role created by one of the developers. The role is granted through the -role shaman
command, adding an icon of the character as they appeared in the trailer next to the user's name. This was reasserted through a Patreon post with a public preview image and text, showing the same character while naming them "the Shaman".

Trivia
Cultural references and inspirations
- The Shaman's design may be inspired by various wizard characters from Old School RuneScape or possibly the Microsoft Agent and Office Assistant character Merlin.
- The design could possibly also be inspired by Gwonam from Link: The Faces of Evil.
- When the Shaman kills his first clone (or gets killed by his first clone), his skeleton is very similar to the Ghouls from 1992's "Alone In The Dark".[2]
