"Ping me in some moments."

The phone is an item in Ena's possession. It has the appearance of a red plastic cup hanging on a yellow and blue striped string.

Overview

After talking to the Receptionist in the Hub, Ena receives a phone call from Froggy where he states she'll have to find the Genies on her own, and he tells her they'll be in touch over the phone. Over the course of chapter 1, he calls Ena during major points of the game.

Usage

The phone can be used both to receive and make calls. During various points of the game, phone numbers to some characters can be found in the form of data matrixes. When decoded, they will reveal numbers that can be used to call said characters, offering secret additional dialogue.

To call a number, the player has to press the number keys on the keyboard until they start hearing beeps; from then onward, a character's number can be input to call them.

Numbers

Coral Glasses: 7746837
Coral Glasses will give Ena the data matrix to her "fax number" after her first interaction in the Hub. Calling this number after talking to Taski Maiden will grant the "Candidate Review" achievement.

Froggy: 8237653
The data matrix of Froggy's number can be found either far out of bounds, held by a Froggy-looking entity, or among Hoarder Alex's pile of stuff.

Phindoll: 2543276
The data matrix to Phindoll's number can be found on the base of the Phindoll bobble-head found in the Taxi Driver's taxi and Dahlia's shop.

Auctioneer: 6687226
The data matrix for the Auctioneer's number can be found in the Outworld, on the back of the big screen with the flexing arms. One way to reach it is to walk to the top of a nearby pyramid and jump down from there to land on the back of the screen.

Trivia

  • Unlike other cutscenes where the option to skip the interaction says "skip", when talking on the phone, the option instead says "hang up".

Cultural references and inspirations

  • The phone shares characteristics with multiple types of phoning devices. Taking and ending calls produce noises of a fixed electric phone post. Its appearance is one of a tin can phone, a non-electric type of phone made up of two cup-shaped objects attached with a taut string that transmits sound vibrations from one end to another.
    • The cup itself bears resemblance to a red solo cup.
