Hoarder Alex

“"Hai qualche idea, QUALCHE IDEA di quanto sia stressante questo lavoro?! Ad esempio, hai mai fissato qualcosa così intensamente per dieci minuti e all'improvviso, diventa il tuo regalo preferito?!"
("Do you have any idea, ANY IDEA how stressful this job is?! Like, have you ever stared so intently at something for 10 minutes, and then all of a sudden it becomes your favorite gift?!")”
― Hoarder Alex, Dream BBQ
Horder Alex is a character who appears in Dream BBQ. He guards a bridge and won't let Ena pass until she follows his questline, where she puts Mayonnaise on a Watcher's prying eyes.
Appearance
Hoarder Alex is an ambiguous bipedal creature with a pointed snout, a thin tail, and white fur, with some tied in the back of their head into a ponytail. He wears a green track jacket with a white zipper. His arms are noodly and flexible, and his small eyes are always censored with a black bar (except for when he's dead). When he gets angry, the top half of his face and a bit of his ponytail goes a light shade of red.
Personality
Hoarder Alex is a very suspicious being with serious anger problems, having broken up with his girlfriend, killed his brother, and even stolen and hoarded things from the morgue. He seems to not want prying eyes on him, as seen with his questline where ƎNA has to put a jar of mayonnaise on a Watcher's face, only for it to backfire, causing his death. He also doesn't hold promises all that well, going back on them rather easily. He does at least hold a bit of respect for the ladies, as Maude finds him to be polite, wondering how his day is going (despite him not looking back at her fondly, calling her a "screaming witch.") He also calls ƎNA "m'lady".
However this is short-lived, as after ƎNA's meanie side claims to be the "Anthology Anomaly" while calling him a jackbutt, he loses his cool and calls them a courtesan.
If the player were to complete his questline before even getting it, he's actually scared of ƎNA, trying to get her to run off before he gets blasted.

Trivia
- When the player is prompted so revive Alex, they can choose not to and instead wait for approximately seven minutes, causing him to die permanently instead. This will result in getting the "Bad Samaritan" achievement, and being allowed to cross the bridge without having to spend ten Chocolates on the Mayonnaise.
- Hoarder Alex's death is guaranteed if the player crosses the bridge. If the player does his quest, he dies to the Watcher's laser beam eyes. If the player chooses not to revive him, he dies. If the player were to complete his job before activating it, he still dies to the Watcher. If the player manages to get to the other side by jumping across the river, he will end up dying to the Watcher off-screen[1].
- The only way to keep him alive is to just not go to the other side of the bridge, leaving the Witches' questline open, and instead take the Purge Event route.
- By removing the mesh that controls Hoarder Alex's censor bar shader, the player can see that he does, in fact, have eyes.[2]
- Hoarder Alex's term of "courtesan" refers to a prostitute, or rather one with wealthy, or upper-class clients.
- "Cortigiana onesta", the term that he uses, refers to a greater type of courtesan. Cortigiana onesta (or honest courtesan) were refined and intellectual sex workers contrasting with the lower class "cortigiana di lume" or "meretrice". A famous example of a cortigiana onesta is Veronica Franco.
- Hoarder Alex's lines were recorded around 2022.[3]
- Some of the delivery of Hoarder Alex's lines (namely "Esci dalla mia prospettiva!") were inspired by Junkrat from Overwatch.[3]
- Joel was the one who translated Alex's lines into Italian.[3]
- Because he was a fan of his work, Joel reached out to Paride unprompted when looking for voice actors for Dream BBQ. Paride wasn't familiar with "ENA" at the time.[3]
- Paride recorded his lines before he'd taken professional dubbing courses at L'Accademia del Doppiaggio. He offered later, sometime around 2024, to re-record the lines and sent over newer recordings with clearer enunciation, but they ended up preferring the original ones.[3]
- According to Paride, the scream Alex lets out wasn't done by him, but by someone else.[3]
